Temple Beth Israel Rabbi Stephen Sniderman knows how much eating goes on during the holidays.
But eating doughnuts and other treats isn’t the sin, he said. The sin, Sniderman told attendees at the 36th annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Service, is the number of people who go hungry.
Sniderman’s message during the Thanksgiving Interfaith Service was simple. Listen to God’s word, and then act on it instead of just listening.
Sniderman and eight other clergy and faith representatives led the service Nov. 22 at Longboat Island Chapel. Sniderman became Temple Beth Israel’s rabbi during the summer, so this was his first time participating in the service.
“Let us try to translate these words into reality by partnering with God to make this world a better place,” he said.
Those in attendance were asked to bring a canned good. The canned goods and all monetary donations will be given to The Food Bank of Manatee and All Faiths Food Bank.
