Run for the Turtles 
Starts at 6:30 a.m. at Siesta Key Beach, 948 Beach Road. The run supports the Sea Turtle Conservation & Research Program at Mote Marine Laboratory and is the program's major fundraiser for sea turtles. The one-mile fun run or walk begins at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K begins at 8 a.m. Registration is $25 for children ages 13 and younger; $35 for adults; and $80 for families (two adults with two children or one adult with three children). Sarasota Young Professionals Group Spelling Bee
Runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bowne’s Lab at Florida Studio Theatre, 1241 Palm Ave. The Sarasota Young Professionals Group, a program of The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, hosts its first spelling competition. Prizes include a $100 Visa gift card, one-year YPG membership, a large jar of local honey and two tickets to Brew Thru SRQ. Tickets are $10 for members; $15 for nonmembers. Republican Women’s Club of Sarasota Meeting

Men’s Senior City Championship
Starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Bobby Jones Golf Club, 1000 Circus Blvd. The 21st annual Men’s Senior City Championship is open to any amateur male golfer who is at least 50 years old by tournament time. The 36-hole tournament is played on the British Course over two days. Registration is $145 and includes greens fees with a cart, refreshments and the awards dinner. Visit bobbyjonesgolfclub.com.

SDA Picnic and Open House
Runs from noon to 3 p.m. at Sarasota in Defense of Animals, 5649 Old Ranch Road. Explore the property and see the animals that roam the Sarasota in Defense of Animals sanctuary. Food and beverages will be provided by Daiquiri Deck. Admission is free. Visit sdasarasota.com.

Poetry Reading

Fore the Love of Habitat Comedy Night & Golf Tournament Comedy Night
Starts at 5:30 p.m. April 7, at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre,1923 Ringling Blvd., featuring comedian Keith Alberstadt. Tickets are $35. The golf tournament starts at 7:30 a.m. April 8, at Laurel Oak Country Club, 2700 Gary Player Blvd. Fore the Love of Habitat is the signature fundraising event of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota and raises funds to build affordable homes in the community. Just Desserts

St. Martha Catholic School Meet & Greet
Runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic School, 4380 Fruitville Road. New and prospective families are invited to tour the campus for students preparing to enter preschool for the 2016-17 school year. Parents will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet teachers and administrative staff. Children will be able to participate in games, activities, snack time and story time. Starts at sunset at Lido Beach. The Sarasota Film Festival and Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources present the Moonlight Movies 2016 season, which continues with “Dolphin Tale 2.” All Moonlight Movies are free and open to the public. Cross Train Your Brain
