St. Mary rummages for treasure

St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church held its annual Rummage Sale March 5.

One man’s trash was another man’s treasure at the annual Royal Rummage Sale Saturday, March 5, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church.

Preparation Fixation

Although the Rummage Sale is just two days long, preparation for the event began in July, when collections for the items began. Every good collected is put in a storage area at St. Mary.

“We get so much and cram everything to the rafters,” co-chairwoman Ingrid Wisniewski said.

On Feb. 23, more than 120 volunteers from St. Mary began setting up for the Rummage Sale.

The sale sold donated “rummage” items ranging from jewelry, clothing, toys and books to furniture, artwork, electronics and kitchen goods.

The church also held an Early Bird sale Friday, March 4, which annually sees approximately 700 people.

Last year’s sale raised $37,000, and co-chairwoman Ingrid Wisniewski is hoping for the same this year.

Longboat Key’s social media presence is thanks in large part to Tina Adams, whose duties include leading a communications team who regularly post infographics, flyers and breaking news alerts to its Facebook, Instagram and X pages. On a Thursday afternoon, Adams walked over to the police station to meet with Police Chief Russ Mager to film the latest video series shared by the town: A Minute with Mager. Adams helped get the right take with the chief, tweaking the script and discussing what was important to include and what could be left out.
