Garden Club finds its roots

The Longboat Key Garden Club honored Florida Arbor Day by donating four trees to the island Jan. 21, at Bicentennial Park.

Two of the trees will be planted along Gulf of Mexico Drive, and the other two will be planted in the future Bayfront Park.

Virginia Sanders, a member of the Garden Club, began donating trees to the Key more than 30 years ago.

“Trees are so important to our environment,” Sanders said. “Planting them makes a difference and keeps us green.”
