Over the past 20 years the community of Sarasota has come to rely on the leadership programs and volunteer projects conducted by Community Youth Development.
Wednesday morning the Sarasota County Commission recognized members and supporters of CYD as well as current students to commemorate the organization's 20th anniversary.
“It was one of the most beneficial programs I had in school,” said CYD STAR Leadership alumnus Vince Guira. “It teaches leadership skills which is especially important during high school.”
Through the CYD programs Guira served on the board of directors for Sarasota Sister Cities and helped him develop public speaking and leadership skills while he was a freshman in high school.
Guira was among the alumni, board members and supporters before the meeting Wednesday to celebrate the 20th anniversary with a breakfast at the County Administration Building.
