Southeastern Guide Dogs honors veterans with Paws for Patriots

Southeastern Guide Dogs celebrated veterans and the dogs that support them through the Paws for Patriots program with a breakfast Friday morning at Michael's On East. 

The Paws for Patriots program connects trained dogs with veterans who are visually impaired, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), wounded or in need of emotional support. 

Among the featured speakers was Paws for Patriots co-founder Michael Jernigan. Jernigan is a 3rd generation Marine and the recipient of both a Purple Heart and a Combat Action Ribbon. The first guide dog he received from Southeastern Guide Dogs was Brittani. He now has his second dog, Treasure by his side.
