A juvenile bald eagle is in recovery thanks to local rescue groups.
Justin Matthews, of Justin Matthews Wildlife Rescue, on April 22 captured a roughly 5-month-old bald eagle with a broken wing found behind businesses at the northwest corner of Lena Road and State Road 70.
“The parents are still hanging around the nest,” said Matthews, who took the bird to Save Our Seabirds.
The eagle underwent surgery April 23 and now is at the Maitland Audubon Bird of Prey Center in recovery.
Matthews said the female eagle should be able to be rehabilitated and released to the wild when she is healed properly.
“It’s going to take a while,” he said. “It was a bad break.”
