To encourage male role models to take an active role in students' education, Carlos E. Haile Middle School embraced the state and countywide initiative — Dads Take Your Child to School Day, Sept. 30.

The initiative, which rolled out this year for the first time, stresses the importance of fathers participation in their children's learning experience. The East County school served up breakfast to fathers and their children.

Families laughed and enjoyed their meals together throughout the morning.

The event gave children an opportunity to spend more time with their parents before class started, a rarity for most students, such as Bailey Delaney.

"Its been fun having breakfast with my dad," Delaney said. "I don't get to see him much in the mornings, except for the weekends."
