Pets strut in costume for Howl-O-Ween

The Humane Society of Sarasota County hosts 18th annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest and fun walk.

People and pups united to celebrate Halloween with the 18th annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest Saturday morning at J.D. Hamel Park.

The Humane Society of Sarasota County hosted the annual event and added a fun walk to this year's festivities. The event began when the crowd gathered to start a 3-mile fun walk across the John Ringling Causeway in costume. 

Top dogs

Most Creative: Zeus as a gumball machine. 

Funniest: Jake as a fish

Spookiest: Chloe as a wicked witch 

Cutest: Macon as a cowboy

Best Owner/Dog Look-a-like: Shiva and Chubbs as the Queen of Hearts and her jester. They were escorted by Jaime and Adam Still dressed as the Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter from "Alice in Wonderland."

After walking off competition jitters the parade of pups and their owners lined up for the costume contest. Costumes ranged from spooky to silly with witches, cowboys and college football foes.
