Local bands and musicians played their hearts out for the 2nd Rock for a Cause Saturday, Nov. 21 at Payne Park.

The event was a combined effort between Sarasota Young Professionals Group and S-One Holdings Corporation to promote music in Sarasota County Schools.

Every aspect of the event was designed to give back to local schools and children. Admission for the event was either $1 or a donation of school supplies that will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County.

Six bands competed for the chance to earn the cash prize of $1,500 for themselves as well as to present the local school music program of their choice with $3,500. Attendees could vote during the performances or online all-day during the event.

Lakewood Ranch High School student and performer Paige Merriman was declared the winner. The 15-year-old singer and songwriter represented LRHS for the competition as well.
