Crowds descended on Siesta Key Beach to watch master sand sculptors from as far as Moscow transform the famous powdery white sands into works of art.
The 6th annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic will be running until Tuesday, Nov. 17 with the sculptures on display. An Amateur Competition on Saturday was open to locals to showcase their sand-sculpting skills.
Laura Jeffcoat was part of the team that took home 1st place in the Family Division for "The Patch."
Resident Laura Jeffcoat and her team that included Christy Agner, Pam and John Hufford built a seaside pumpkin patch for their sculpture. Dubbed "The Patch" the team took home first place in the Family Division for the Amateur Competition.
"It's something original and different than the typical beach theme," Jeffcoat said. "It's also something you don't see very often on the beach."

Brooke Denham named her creation Platform 9 and 3/4 after a festival goer said it resembles the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy from the Harry Potter series.
