A Florida Power & Light Co. contractor caused a Longboat Key power outage yesterday that affected 3,825 Bay Isles homes.

The power outage, which occurred around 3 p.m., also disrupted a video presentation being presented at the Veterans Day Parade hosted by the Rotary Club of Longboat Key.

Town Manager Dave Bullock said a FPL representative informed him a contractor broke an underground power line in Bay Isles and was replacing the section of the line.

Power was restored by 4:30 p.m. and residents continued to receive short outages in the early evening as FPL worked to balance the power load during the line’s replacement.
