TURN ON THE LIGHTS
6:47 p.m. — 4300 block of GMD.
Traffic: Police issued a man a citation for driving without a license after stopping him for not using his vehicle’s headlights after sunset. The man told police he was only driving for his job, and he cannot get a license due to his immigration status.
1:18 p.m. — 4800 block of GMD.
Larceny: A woman bought several pieces of artwork for her condo’s clubhouse a year-and-a-half ago and noticed the items were missing. A maintenance employee told police one of the items was found on the ground in pieces the day before and was thrown away. The other artwork was later found in a dumpster on the property. The glass was shattered, but otherwise, the pieces were in good shape.
12:54 p.m. — 800 block of Tarawitt Drive.
Reckless Driving: A man who was in his yard with his children reported that the driver of a truck towing a trailer pulled out of a driveway at a high rate of speed. He told police that he stepped into the road to try to slow the driver down because he worried his son would get hurt, and the driver cursed at him and tried to drive around him. Police contacted the driver using the tag info the man obtained. The driver said he was only going 4 or 5 mph, and the man and his wife ran into the road toward his driver’s door, cursing at him. He said he attempted to drive around them after they blocked his exit, and a shouting match ensued.
THE SHIP HAS SAILED
1:50 p.m. — 6800 block of Longboat Drive South.
Code Enforcement: Police discovered a sailboat that was partially sunk. A woman at a restaurant told police the vessel has been in the area for years, and she has never seen it move.
HIT AND RUN
5:38 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD.
Assist Other Agency: Bradenton Beach police advised they were looking for a black vehicle with minor front-end damage that was last seen traveling southbound after the driver struck a bicyclist. Police found the vehicle in a parking lot and located the suspect in a nearby restaurant. The man told police the damage was old and that another vehicle was tailgating him. Police arrested the man and transported him to Bradenton Beach.
OUT OF LINE
8:04 p.m. — 2000 block of GMD.
Traffic: Police received a report of a possible drunken driver who was weaving and driving slowly. The driver was not impaired. He told police his vehicle has been shifting to the right, and he had already scheduled an appointment for realignment.
11:08 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD.
Traffic: Police issued a man a citation for driving with a suspended license. The man’s passenger had a valid license and agreed to drive.
THE SOUND OF SILENCE
10:58 p.m. — 500 block of Kingfisher Lane.
Noise: Police encountered three men quietly talking in an open garage while responding to a noise complaint. The men said they didn’t realize they had disturbed anyone and closed the garage door. Less than 10 minutes later, the same caller reported that the garage door was open and there was noise. Police found the door was still closed, and no noise was audible. Police met with the woman and said no noise was audible. She said she didn’t think the men should be outside at 11 p.m.
