+ Longboat home sells for $3.45 million
A home on Longboat Key sold for $3.45 million yesterday, representing the highest sale price for a single-family residence on the Key this year.

The home at 640 Rountree Drive includes four bedrooms, a library loft, bayfront swimming pool and 60-foot dock. The home has more than 5,100 square feet and more than 200 feet of frontage on Sarasota Bay.

The property, listed and sold by Michael Saunders & Co. agents, is located in the Longboat Key Estates neighborhood. It last sold for $3.3 million in August 2013.

The sale is another in a string of recent benchmark-setting closing prices on luxury homes in the area.

Maureen Horn, who represented the seller, said the sale was indicative of a strong market for such residential properties.

+ Town, Sarasota County commissioners to meet
The Longboat Key Town Commission and Sarasota County Commission will hold a joint meeting at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6, at the Sarasota County Administration Building, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

Items for discussion include beach renourishment projects and the New Pass Inlet Management Plan, Bayfront Park Recreation Center, the county’s 800-MHz public safety communication system, dispatch consolidation, Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT), mobility fees, planning efforts for a town center, sea level rise and opportunities for collaboration between the town and county.

+ ZBA to hear setback petition
The Zoning Board of Adjustment will hear a petition from Andrew Sloman for a variance from the town’s code that would reduce the required Gulf waterfront yard from the required 150 feet to 75 feet from the erosion control line. The variance would allow for construction of a porch/deck addition to the current single-family home at 3021 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

The hearing will take place at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9, at Longboat Key Town Hall.
