The Out of Door Academy and ALSO Youth hosted an alternative prom Saturday, May 10 for five Sarasota area high school students looking for an alternative dance. The theme was "A Summer Night," and the dance included food by PDQ, Blue Rooster, Cupcakes a Go Go and Tropicana.

"The students had been demanding something like this, so we decided to offer an alternative prom," said co-chair Sean McDonald. "We wanted a dance where anybody could come and dress however they want and bring whoever they want and not worry about feeling uncomfortable. They're certainly welcome at their own proms, but if someone didn't feel comfortable there, we wanted them to have this as an option."
