Town staff has recommended two applications submitted by the Chiles Restaurant Group to redevelop Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub.

Chiles Restaurant Group owner Ed Chiles submitted a proposed site plan for a proposed second story covered deck with stair and elevator access.

Chiles also seeks a special exception that would allow outdoor dining on the second-floor covered deck. The restaurant currently has outdoor dining on its ground level, but because Chiles seeks to provide a new area for outdoor dining, a new special exception is required for indoor dining.

The original application Chiles submitted to the town Sept. 22 included a request for 11 additional seats. According to a staff report:

“Staff reviewed the request and indicated to the applicant that Staff could not support the request for additional seats, based on the provisions of the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code. The applicant then agreed to eliminate the request for additional seats.”

The restaurant currently has 59 seats available for indoor dining. If the requests are approved, the restaurant will relocate 52 of those seats from the interior of the restaurant onto the new second story deck.

The Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board will consider both applications at its regular meeting at 9 a.m. Dec. 16, at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.
