+ Construction worker injured after fall from roof
A construction worker was airlifted to Blake Medical Center, in Bradenton, after falling approximately 30 feet from the roof of a home.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Dec. 4, in the 3400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Police say Julio Cesar Galvan-Hernandez, of Bradenton, stepped on a piece of metal flashing on the roof, then slid off the roof and hit the ground while working for Bringman Roofing Inc. Galvan-Hernandez was conscious when police arrived and was bleeding from his nose and coughing up blood.

Longboat Key Fire Rescue assessed Galvan-Hernandez and transported him to Bayfront Park to be airlifted.

+ Former Windward Bay employee pleads no contest
Former Windward Bay maintenance employee Michael Artman has pleaded no contest to burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft in the second degree and dealing in stolen property.

Longboat Key police arrested Artman in March on charges related to the theft of a resident’s $85,000 ring that was recovered in New York City. Police said at the time of his arrest that they suspected Artman was responsible for periodic thefts of jewelry and other small valuables throughout the community.

Sentencing is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 16, at the Manatee County Judicial Center.

+ Toys for Tots campaign continues at local businesses
Businesses and government offices on Longboat Key continue to accept Toys for Tots donations.

Drop off toys or donations by 4 p.m. Dec. 12 at the following Manatee County Longboat Key locations: First Bank of Florida, the Longboat Observer office and Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant.

Collections continue through Dec. 23 at Longboat Key Club, Longboat Key Town Hall, Grand Bay condos, Michael Saunders & Co.’s mid-Key office and Longboat Key Police Department.
