Aug. 17
Know when to fold ’em
10:42 p.m. — 5800 block of GMD.
Civil Disturbance. Police responded to a noise complaint; families were playing cards. They agreed to fold.

Pump problem
11:06 a.m. — 3000 block of Harbourside Drive. Larceny. A fire pump was reported stolen from the Longboat Key’s Club Moorings Marina. The pump, which was stolen from a locked shed, was valued at $8,000.

Termination trouble
2:04 p.m. — 600 block of Longboat Club Road. Civil Disturbance. A condominium manager told police that an employee who was terminated over the phone that morning was verbally abusive and had started calling different personnel to express his displeasure. Police called the former employee and he agreed to only contact his former employee through mail or a third party.

Aug. 15
Guard shack runaround
6:43 a.m. — 600 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Suspicious Circumstance. A security officer told police a car drove around the guard shack and drove toward the marina. The car could not be located.

Flew the coop
12:06 p.m. — 500 block of Gunwale Lane. Larceny. A woman reported someone stole a 4-foot-tall solid bronze statue of an egret, valued at $3,000, from her yard. She thinks one of her daughter’s friends may have stolen the statue, but her daughter denies knowledge of anyone taking it.

Aug. 16
NEED FOR READ
10:04 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road.
Traffic Accident. A man told police he was pulling into a parking space at the Longboat Library when he mixed up the brake pedal with the gas pedal. The mix-up landed his car in the shrubbery near the front of the library. There was damage to his car and a planter wall in the front of the structure.

Jewelry heist
2:03 p.m. — 4900 block of GMD. Larceny. A woman told police she left her condominium unlocked and came home to find the door locked. Upon entry, she discovered jewelry valued at more than $1,400 missing from various locations.

Aug. 17
Caught on camera
4:32 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD
. Traffic Violation. License-plate recognition cameras registered a man potentially driving with a revoked driver’s license. The 99-year-old man’s license was suspended for failure to submit to a vision test.

ELECTRIC FEEL
8:05 p.m. — 300 block of North Shore Road. Fire. Lightning struck a light pole, but there was no damage and no reports of any injuries.

Aug. 18
LEAF IT ALONE
11:19 a.m. — 3200 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police he believes someone is trying to kill a pigeon plum tree on the west side of his property with unknown chemicals. Although the tree appeared healthy, there was a noticeable amount of dead grass in a circle pattern around the tree. The property manager agreed to keep an eye on the tree.

Sunday is off limits
2:24 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Dream Island Road. Code Enforcement. A man was performing construction work on a Sunday and was told that town codes forced him to close up shop.

Aug. 19
JOY RIDE
9:28 a.m. — 3500 block of Mistletoe Lane
. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported the theft of a golf cart that was later recovered somewhere else in good working condition. Either someone borrowed the golf cart or a maintenance worker misplaced it.

Relationship rift
11:16 p.m. — 500 block of Ed Lee Lane. Civil Disturbance. A woman called police to report that her father is in a relationship with a woman who keeps calling his house from afar; the woman is out of town for seven months of the year. The calls have gotten threatening in nature, and her father is having trouble keeping home health aides because of the harassment. Complicating matters, the woman is set to return in October to live at the house for five months. Police advised the daughter to speak with her family and an attorney.
