Sarasota Bay Watch released 4 million juvenile scallops Saturday, Nov. 10, into Sarasota Bay.
A larger release will follow in the next week or two.
The group worked with Mote Marine Laboratory to organize the citizen’s science project.
It was the second release organized by Sarasota Bay Watch. The first release occurred in December 2011 and also involved the release of 4 million juvenile scallops. It was funded in part by Sarasota Yacht Club and donations from the community.
Scallop spat are reared from brood stock by Bay Shellfish Co., a Terra Ceia hatchery.
