The community will come together today to remember Longboat Key Police Chief Albert “Al” Hogle, who died last week in a North Carolina motorcycle crash.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. today at the Robarts Arena, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. A 3 p.m. ceremony at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, will follow. Parking is limited at both sites, particularly the cemetery, so carpooling is advised.

The Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriffs Office and Manatee County Sheriffs Office will patrol Longboat Key for approximately six hours this afternoon so that Longboat Key officers can attend services.

Today’s Longboat Key Town Commission regular workshop had been rescheduled to 5 p.m. to allow for attendance of services.
