The Sarasota Police Department interrupted an attempted suicide on North Tamiami Trail Tuesday and saved the life of a woman attempting to die by carbon monoxide poisoning.

At 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, a citizen alerted a police officer to a vehicle at 3333 N. Tamiami Trail with a vacuum hose that was duct taped at the exhaust pipe and routed through a slightly open trunk while the car was running.

Police found a non-responsive white female lying on the back seat, pale in color, with exhaust emitting fumes from the hose into the car.

Officers that arrived on scene to help shattered the vehicle driver’s window and turned off the engine. The vehicle was unlocked and all doors opened to air out the vehicle interior.

The unresponsive victim was removed from the vehicle, treated at the scene and transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for additional medical treatment.

Statements from the victim, who is expected to recover, and a note indicated that the victim was despondent over the death of her child.
