Crime spree ends in standoff and arrest.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Saturday responsible for number of crimes that began in Manatee County and ended in South Sarasota County.

According the a press release, Jason Wayo, 44, committed at least two home robberies and stole four vehicles which he crashed or abandoned. He ended his run by barricading himself in a Venice home Saturday afternoon.

Sarasota deputies, Venice police and Florida Highway Patrol established a perimeter, closed nearby roads and evacuated a number of homes. After approximately three hours negotiators convinced Wayo to surrender.

Wayo was taken to the Venice Regional Medical Center, and then questioned by detectives.

Wayo has 14 prior felony convictions and was released from prison just six months ago. He had an active warrant for violation of probation for dealing in stolen property
