Rhea Chiles partnered with her husband, Lawton Chiles, during his 40 years of public service and served as first lady of the state of Florida for eight years. Today, Chiles carries on her husband’s legacy as founder and chair of the Lawton Chiles Foundation. To celebrate Longboat Island Chapel’s Aging in Paradise Resource Center, which will open in approximately three months, the chapel will honor Chiles as a model for senior citizens at “Hooray! It’s a Soiree” from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Longboat Key Club and Resort Harbourside Dining Room, 3000 Harbourside Drive. Tickets are $75 per person. Call 383-6491.
