+ Sounds of season ring in donations for Salvation Army
The sounds of season could be heard from the week of Thanksgiving through the end of December at the Longboat Key Publix, where volunteers rang The Salvation Army bell in 90-minute shifts. But, this year, it wasn’t just Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key members ringing the bell. Along with the club’s 27 volunteers, 10 town employees and members of the Longboat Key Garden Club, Republican Club of Longboat Key and Longboat Key Democratic Club participated. Volunteers collected $12,491.37 for The Salvation Army — approximately $1,500 more than last year’s total and the highest amount collected on the Key in five years.
