Voter registration deadline for primary nears

Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent announced today that the deadline for voter registration is Jan. 3, 2012, for the Presidential Preference Primary.

New voter registration must be postmarked by Jan. 3, 2012, or delivered in person to any supervisor of elections office by 5 p.m., Jan. 3, 2012.

Florida is a closed primary state. Voters can only participate in the primary of the party they are registered in. Voters without party affiliation, or in a party other than the Republican Party, will not be eligible to vote on Jan. 31, 2012.

A voter may check his or her registration status by visiting www.Sarasotavotes.com. Select “Voter Information” from the menu and then “Voter Lookup” and proceed to the instructions given.

Register to vote at all supervisor of elections offices, city halls, county libraries and offices, social service agencies, or from www.sarasotavotes.com.
