+ Fire Rescue breaks ground on new station
Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue, which serves portions of the East County, broke ground May 20 on the replacement of Station 3, located at 7611 Prospect Road.

The Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue Board of Commissioners and Fire Chief J. Foster Grove conducted the ceremony.

Construction is being completed by Mike Carter Construction and is expected to take about nine months. The new station will house a full-time fire engine crew with Manatee County Medic Unit 7. The existing station will continue to be utilized until construction is finished.

+ Coupon queen visits East County
The queen of local couponing came out to Sarasota Baptist’s Lakewood Ranch campus on Deer Drive June 3.

Kati Kiefer, one of the founders of www.truecouponing.com, shared with about 180 people how to save money on their grocery bills using coupons and sales cycles.
