Sarasota approves rowing facility plans

Sarasota County commissioners on Wednesday approved a conceptual master site plan for Nathan Benderson Park, future home to a world-class rowing facility.

The facility, which will include a 2,000-meter rowing course as well as grandstands, boat launches and a series of “adventure” parks, among other amenities, is located just south of the Benderson Development’s proposed University Town Center mega mall project at University Parkway and Cattlemen Road.

The project is expected to be completed in three phases and is estimated to cost no more than $29 million. Funding sources are still being identified.
