+ Key home salvaged for Habitat for Humanity Sarasota
Christmas came early this year for Habitat for Humanity Sarasota. A home on Sands Point was scheduled for demolition and the owner, Ashridge Holdings, of the United Kingdom, allowed the agency to salvage whatever could be used from the house. Volunteering for the task were members of Christ Church of Longboat Key Presbyterian Joe Palumbo, Ann Quackenbush, Sue Wertman, Tom Warren and Andy Sawyer, with Paul Nielsen of Church of the Palms. Habitat volunteer Rick Slayback organized the project. Salvaged were kitchen cabinets, counters, bathroom fixtures, mirrors, bookcases and miscellaneous items.
Ted Wolff, of Blackwolff Contractors, said it would take about a week to demolish the house. Construction of new house will begin as soon as plans are completed and permits issued.
