Child survives near-drowning

An 18-month-old child was transported to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center last night after nearly drowning in the family's pool.

A Manatee County Sheriff's Office report states deputies responded to the call in the 4400 block of 67^th Avenue Circle in the Woodridge Oaks community at about 7:29 p.m.

The child's father found the boy face up in the pool and immediately removed him from the water to begin administering CPR. The father stated his son was slightly blue when he first found him, the report states.

Both parents did CPR until EMS arrived. The child was breathing on his own, but was lethargic. He was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
