Volunteers at the seventh annual Fishing Line Cleanup picked up fishing equipment and other trash in an effort to clean up area waters and beaches.
Dozens of volunteers came to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on Oct. 10 for the seventh annual Fishing Line Cleanup on Oct. 3.
Hosted by Sarasota Sailing Squadron, Sarasota Bay Watch and Audubon Florida, the event helped clean up area waters, both on boat and on foot.
In addition to the volunteers at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, the Longboat Key Turtle Watch hosted a Manatee County cleanup. Twenty-eight volunteers helped collect 528 pounds of trash on 4.75 miles of beach.
“The beach is cleaner thanks to all the efforts of the volunteers and the county and town employees,” Turtle Watch Vice President Cyndi Seamon said.
