Volunteers collected 312 pounds of trash along a 4.75-mile stretch of Longboat Key’s Manatee County beach Saturday, Oct. 2, as part of the International Coastal Cleanup. The top-10 items collected included:

• 926 cigarettes and cigarette filters
• 430 caps and lids
• 402 food wrappers and containers
• 127 straws and stirrers
• 93 building materials
• 60 cigar tips
• 56 plastic beverage bottles
• 47 ropes
• 43 cups, plates, knives, forks and spoons
• 40 beverage cans

Other items of interest included a large foam piling and a barbecue lid.
