Turtle nesting season ends

Turtle-nesting season ended yesterday, but Longboat Key Turtle Watch volunteers are already staking out next season.

Turtle watchers recently got together to paint stakes for next season. The stakes are used to mark turtle nests.

Turtle-nesting season runs from May 1 through Oct. 31. During that period, properties are required to shield or turn off outdoor lights that are visible on the beach.
