The Longboat Key Town Commission will discuss options for beginning a review of the town’s Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan at its regular workshop, scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

A recent ruling by Judge Charles E. Roberts granting a petition for a writ of certiorari to the Islandside Property Owners Coalition (IPOC) and L’Ambiance and Sanctuary condominium associations in their challenge of the commission’s approval of the $400 million proposed Longboat Key Club and Resort Islandside redevelopment project triggered the planned discussion.

Town Attorney David Persson recommended last week that the commission address ambiguities in its code as soon as possible so that property owners could clearly understand what uses are permissible on their properties. Persson also recommended that the town join the Key Club in its appeal to the Second District Court of Appeals, with the Key Club continuing to pay for the town’s legal expenses in the case. The commission unanimously approved Persson’s request at last week’s meeting.
