Sarasota Opera Guild presents its Summer Salon series, featuring Indian dancer Sudha Bhagwat, who with her brother, Arun, combines storytelling, music and dance to tell stories of Indian mythology.

 

'Skyway: A Contemporary Art Collaboration Reception'

5:30 p.m. at the Ringling Museum of Art, 5401 Bayshore Road

In this collaborative group show, which opens simultaneously at The Ringling, The Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg and the Tampa Museum of Art, work by 57 artists from the Sarasota and Tampa Bay area will celebrate contemporary art. At the Ringling, 11 contemporary artists will display work in sculpture, photography installation and more.

 

Sarasota Improv Festival

Surrender to the thrill of the unknown. This annual festival boasts three days of nonstop improv comedy by troupes from across the country — and this year, the world. In its ninth year, the festival features performances and workshops. Runs through Saturday.

 

Al Ernst

A regular on the Blue Collar Network on Sirius/XM radio, Al Ernst returns to McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, which helped launch his career in 1991. Performs through Sunday.
 

 

Disney’s ‘My Son Pinocchio Jr.’

This new musical offers a new twist on the classic story of Pinocchio, telling the tale from the woodcarver Geppetto’s perspective. It features both classic songs, like “When You Wish upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings,” as well as new music by Tony, Oscar and Grammy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz.

‘The Jersey Tenors’

HD at the Opera House presents ‘Madama Butterfly’ by Giacomo Puccini

Puccini only reached a final version of "Madama Butterfly" in 1907 after producing five versions of the opera. In this movie, you’ll experience the first version, premiered at La Scala theater in Milan in 1904.

Folk trio The Blue Eyed Bettys got its start in a Florida Studio Theatre cabaret production. Their friendship quickly turned into a band, performing traditional Americana-inspired storytelling tunes. With lush vocal harmonies and a lovable, theatrical stage presence, the Bettys are not to be missed. Runs through Aug. 20

‘The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey’
