Street closures announced for downtown holiday parade

The Sarasota Police Department has announced a series of street closures and tow away zones for Saturday’s Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade.

If you plan to attend the 20th annual Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade — or just headed into the heart of the city Saturday — be aware of a number of street closures scheduled around the event.

From noon until the end of the parade, closures and tow-away zones throughout downtown will go into effect to accommodate the parade route. Here’s a list of the closures, courtesy the Sarasota Police Department:

Noon — Main Street, from U.S. 301 to School Avenue
2 p.m. — Main Street, from Orange Avenue to U.S. 41 and Osprey to U.S. 301
5 p.m. — Gulfstream Avenue, from U.S. 41 to Church of the Redeemer
5:30 p.m. — Main Street, from U.S. 301 to U.S. 41
U.S. 301, from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
6 p.m. — Main Street will be completely shut down. The Hollywood 20 parking garage will close.

The parade begins at 7 p.m., and roads will reopen once the end of the parade is at least two blocks from each closed area. Towing will begin at 5:30 p.m.
