Sarasota Christian to play for state title

The Sarasota Christian girls basketball team defeated Academy at the Lakes 68-59 in the FHSAA Class 2A state semifinals Feb. 18, at the Lakeland Center.

McKenzie Lantz scored 21 points and was 11-for-12 from the free throw line to lead the way for the Lady Blazers.

Cheyenne Miller, who averaged 5.6 points per game heading into the contest, finished with 17 points. Megan Garriott added 12 points.

Sarasota resident Audra Leipold, who is home school and travels to play for Academy at the Lakes, finished with eight points for the Wildcats.

With the win, Sarasota Christian will advance to the Class 2A state championship Feb. 20 where it will face Grandview Prep. Tip-off is set for 3:35 p.m., at the Lakeland Center.
