City discusses G.WIZ lease tonight

→   The city is holding off on the city hold off on selling a vacant parcel at 1000 Blvd. of the Arts until it discusses a future lease for a tenant that sits next door.

The Sarasota City Commission will discuss the terms of a lease extension with G.WIZ Science Museum tonight at its regular meeting, in the wake of a suggestion by Commissioner Shannon Snyder to relocate the museum from its bayfront location to attract a high-profile tenant to the bayfront next to another city-owned parcel.

Town could settle Armstrong suit this week

→   The Longboat Key Town Commission will consider a settlement agreement with resident James Armstrong at a special meeting Thursday.

The town and resident James Armstrong could enter into a settlement agreement this week.

Mayor Jim Brown has set a special Longboat Key Town Commission meeting to immediately follow the commission’s 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19 regular workshop in which the commission will consider the settlement agreement that Armstrong signed last week.

Pam and David DeFratus grow over 700 bananas each year from their yard on Longboat Key. They brought the banana plants from Georgia where Pam’s father originally planted them, and they planned for them to be more decorative than anything. But now they have so many bananas they don’t know what to do with them. They’ve come up with a long list of recipes. Their neighbors tend to stop by and steal a few as well.

The Defratuses make eight batches or so at a time, and give the loaves to their friends and neighbors. When they cook, the whole block smells like bananas. A few neighbors stopped by to help with the process...
