On Aug. 10, Sarasota resident Polly White, 91, will take to the skies in her first parasailing adventure at Siesta Key Beach. Her participation will help raise funds through Watermark for Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering kids to fully express themselves and thrive.

“Just as Ms. White is expressing her character, leadership, creativity, compassion and spirit through this endeavor, she is inspiring others to do the same, and that’s what Watermark for Kids is all about,” said Jill Hofer, executive director of Watermark for Kids, in a prepared statement.

Sailing through the clouds is nothing new to White, who received a Congressional gold medal in 2009 for her service as a Women Air Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II.

Shannon Ruedlinger, executive director of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, the Sarasota retirement community where White resides, has agreed to accompany her on the tandem parasailing excursion — if the community raises a minimum of $500 for Watermark for Kids. To date, $210 has been raised.
