The Lakeland-based Publix Supermarkets Inc. will close its Longboat Key store at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 7, to prepare for construction of its new Avenue of the Flowers store.

The existing store is slated for demolition in May. A new, 49,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open by the end of the year.

Publix filed an application to rebuild its Key store last July. The Longboat Key Town Commission approved three separate outline development plans and a site-plan amendment for the project in February.
