Lady Mustangs win fourth invitational of the season

The Lakewood Ranch High girls cross country team continued its winning ways Oct. 9, taking first place in the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

The Lady Mustangs finished with 42 points to beat Harrison (68 points) and Roswell, Ga. (110 points). Olivia Ortiz finished third with a time of 19:17.2 Kristin Zarella finished fourth (19:18) followed by Natalie Novak (6th) in 19:26.10, Devin McDermott (10th) in 19:36.2 and Ashley Platt (19th) in 20:21.9. 

Other Lady Mustang runners included Emily Perez (39th) in 21:19.2 and Hailey Stoffel (77th) in 23:23.6.

The win marks the fourth Invitational win for the Lakewood this season. The Lady Mustangs will return to action Oct. 16 in the pre-State Invitational at Everglades Ranch in Dade City.
