East County weekend event forecast

Walking and cycling events, a free concert and movie showing are penciled in for East County residents this weekend.

Whether you're a runner, bicyclist, movie enthusiast or music lover, East County has an event for you this weekend.

Below is a list of outdoor, family-friendly events for those looking for a low-cost night out.

Music on Main 

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Lakewood Main Street March 4. The featured group at the free concert is SoulRCoaster Band, which is a cover band that specializes in rock 'n' roll and other genres. Proceeds from the event will benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs. Guests are welcome to bring chairs but no coolers.

MS Walk 2016

The annual walk starts at 9 a.m. March 5 on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. The site opens at 8 a.m., but the one- and three-mile courses will be open for walking an hour later. Show your support for family members and friends who suffer fromMultiple Sclerosis (MS). Walk MS connects loved ones of those with multiple sclerosis with light refreshments served after the walk.

Community Movie Night

Have you met "The Croods?" The animated movie will be showing for free at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle, Sarasota. Bring your lawn chair and blankets. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. In case of rain out or weather disturbances, the event will move to March 6, at the same time and location.

Take Stock in Children Fun Run

The 10k and 5k are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. and the fun run starts at 8:30 a.m. March 6 on Lakewood Main Street. The Take Stock in Children 10k/5k/Fun Run is held to benefit select students in Manatee County, who are presented mentors and scholarships. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. The post race party features food, entertainment, raffles, age group awards and kids activities. All proceeds from the event benefit Take Stock in Children of Manatee County.

Pedal for Pups

The run starts at 7:45 a.m. and cycling starts at 8 a.m. March 6 at Regatta Island at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle. Bring your bike or run in a pet-friendly event which benefits Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue. The cycling race offers a choice of four-, 15-, 32- and 64-mile routes and a kid’s route. Following the event, there is an after cycling party.
