Diego Munoz is a sophomore wrestler at Lakewood Ranch High. Munoz went 3-0 in competition at the Venice Duals Feb. 1. He also holds a 4.15 GPA, according to Coach Pat Ancil.

When did you start wrestling?

I started wrestling my freshman year. I just wanted to try something different. I have always been an energetic person and I thought wrestling might be a good way of getting that energy out.

What is the appeal to you?

I love the feeling of winning. It's satisfying when you put in hard work at practice and can see it pay off.

What is your best skill?

I'm good at takedowns. I'm a good technician in that way. I can do the little things right.

What has been your biggest challenge?

I'm not as good when I'm on the bottom. That's the biggest thing I'm trying to improve.

What is your favorite memory?

My first junior varsity tournament last year is still my favorite. I was nervous, but I went 3-0 and got all three wins by pin. That felt good. I was wrestling at 126 pounds then.

What is your favorite food?

I love hibachi food, like hibachi chicken. I love the flavor of that.

What is your favorite TV show?

I like 'The Office' a lot. That is an all-time classic to me.

Which superpower would you pick?

I would pick teleportation.

What is the best advice you have received?

Coach (Pat Ancil) always says, 'Suck it up, buttercup,' when we're doing something hard in practice. That resonates with me. I have never been a quitter. I don't want to give up. I'm going to push through whatever I'm doing and see it out.

Finish this sentence: Diego Munoz is …

… Determined. I tend to accomplish whatever I want because I put my all into it.
