BEACH BELONGINGS
9:10 a.m. — 4900 block of GMD.
Found Property: A condo security manager told police he found items on the beach that didn’t belong to residents. Police took the beach toys and umbrella to the station. The security manager came to the station to collect the items after an owner claimed them.
BUSINESS DISPUTE
1:40 p.m. — 6800 block of GMD.
Disturbance: A real estate agent reported that locks were being changed on an office where she is now 20% owner. Her business partner, though, requested the lock change because there is no current broker with a license to keep the office open. Police advised all parties it was a civil matter and that until legal documentation for the business was provided, all parties still have legal access to the business. The locksmith was sent on his way.
CUT THROUGH
2:55 p.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road
Trespassing: A condominium property manager reported that two people walked through the property to access Beer Can Island. The couple apologized for cutting through the property to avoid a construction project. They agreed to leave the area.
UNWELCOME VISITOR
8:05 a.m. — 4400 block of GMD
Suspicious Circumstance: A man told police he thought someone entered his unit while he was gone for a few days by using a condo association key. He thinks his personal papers and property were rifled through. He told police closet doors were also not in the same position as they were when he left. The association advised that no one had permission to enter his unit. Police advised him to get a motion camera near his front door for evidence.
TRIPLE THREAT
12:56 p.m. — 4500 block of GMD
Traffic: The license plate camera recognition system alerted police about a Jeep entering the Key with an expired tag. The driver admitted she had an expired tag, suspended driver’s license and no valid insurance. She received multiple citations, and her Jeep was towed from the scene.
CONSTRUCTION SITE GROUPIES
2:12 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
Trespassing: Two couples were found walking and sitting on a portion of the beach that is closed for the installation of two groins on the beach. The couples received verbal warnings and left the area.
DON'T HAVE A BLAST
5:49 p.m. — 600 block of Dream Island Road
Fireworks: Police responded to a home that was hosting a party after gunshots were reported. Police observed a guest toss a lit firecracker into the water and heard it explode. Police told the homeowners that lighting fireworks is a violation of town code.
FLYING WALLET
2:25 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD
Lost Property: A man told police he left his wallet on the trunk of his car while pumping gas and forgot it was there when he drove off. He canceled his credit cards.
PADDLEBOARD PROBLEMS
9:36 a.m. — 4600 block of GMD
Recovered Property: An employee of a business that delivers rental kayaks and paddleboards to visitors reported a missing paddleboard from a Key resort. The employee told police he was confident another rental company based in Holmes Beach took the paddleboard. When he threatened to contact the police, the company admitted to taking the paddleboard and gave it back. The employee then came to the police station to report the incident. Police observed a sticker that was removed from the paddleboard to erase the owner’s identification and turned the case over to the department’s detective.
SOMEBODY'S WATCHING ME
7:33 p.m. — 600 block of Broadway
Suspicious Circumstance: A woman reported that a man was watching her closely for more than two months and took pictures of her while she was on her porch. She was unable to give police a physical description of the man but kept repeating that she felt she was being watched.
TWO PAWS UP
9:30 p.m. — Intersection of Gulfside Road and GMD
Animal Found: A man reported his golden Labrador retriever was missing. Police told the man they got a report of a dog running loose in the area earlier in the day. Police found the dog, which jumped voluntarily into a squad car, and took the dog back to the station for food. An officer agreed to take the dog home overnight after animal services reported it couldn’t pick the dog up until the following day. The man confirmed the dog’s collar contained a silver plate next to the clasp with identification on it. The officer agreed to bring the dog back to the Key in the morning. The man thanked police for taking such good care of his dog.
NO VALID LICENSE
11:35 p.m. — 500 block of Harbourside Drive.
Traffic: The license-plate camera recognition system notified police that the owner of a car that entered the island did not have a valid driver’s license. Police had the car towed away.
WARNING SHOTS
4:40 p.m. — 7000 block of Longboat Drive East.
Code Enforcement: A woman told police she saw a man shoot at peacocks with a BB gun. She told police she didn’t hear the gun go off and doesn’t think any peacocks were injured. The man told police he discharged the gun to scare the peacocks away but didn’t shoot at them. He told police he’s sick and tired of the peacocks pooping on his roof, lanai and surrounding property. He said tourists also walk on his property to take pictures of the birds. He received a verbal warning.
