9:33 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD
Burglary of a Vehicle: Police determined an unknown suspect used a tool to break the passenger window of a car parked at a beach access. The vehicle owner’s daughter could not find her purse, which was later located in a nearby trash can. The suspect took $40 worth of contents from the purse and caused $300 in damage to the car. Officers found two fingerprints.
Publisher’s Clearing Hoax
1:50 p.m. — 5900 block of Emerald Harbor Drive
Fraud/Identity Theft: A woman called police to report that someone had called to tell her she won $2.5 million and a new Mercedes-Benz. She told officers she knew it was too good to be true, and suspected it was a scam. While police were at her home, the suspect called the woman again, but hung up when the officer identified himself.

2:12 p.m. — 600 block of Dream Island Road
Suspicious Circumstance: An officer arrived at a woman’s home in response to a suspicious incident, but she said she had no clue why they were there. A dispatcher contacted the caller, who said his 1-year-old son called on accident. Police suspected the man himself had actually called on accident.
Work Smart, Not Hard
8:04 p.m. — Longboat Pass Bridge
Suspicious Person: Police responded to reports of a suspicious man jumping off of the Longboat Pass Bridge. Nearby fishermen told officers they saw a man jump off of the lowest part of the bridge to get to his boat, then left the area. Police noted it appeared the man did so to avoid walking all the way around and under the bridge.
Lights Out
10:13 p.m. — 4300 block of GMD
Suspicious Person: An officer investigating reports of a suspicious group of people on the beach downs several families searching for crabs with their cellphone lights illuminated. Police told the group they needed low-luminosity red or orange light on the beach during turtle nesting season.
All System’s Go
2:15 p.m.— 600 block of Triton Bend
Alarm: Police responded to a residential alarm, and found the homeowner on site. The man said he had just installed a new alarm system, and accidentally walked out of the back door.
Anxious for Redevelopment
8:26 p.m. — 1500 block of GMD
Security Check: While conducting a patrol request at the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort, police found that all of the gates around the tennis courts were insecure. Locks and gates were either broken, unlocked or unchained, which the officer noted would provide easy access to the closed property. Police notified the property manager.
Scary Movie
3:23 a.m. — 2600 block of GMD
Suspicious Person: Officers discovered a woman wandering around outside resort shouting that she planned to shoot and kill everyone. The woman’s father said his daughter was sleeping and awoken by what she thought was someone yelling outside of her room. After speaking to the woman and family, officers concluded that she had nightmare, which may have been influenced by something she watched on TV.
Bad Breakups
2:06 p.m. — 4300 block of Falmouth Drive
Harassment: A man called police to report that one of his ex-boyfriends was harassing him with phone calls and on his social media pages. He could not provide officers with any evidence or specify which one of his ex-boyfriends the messages and calls were coming from, so police suggested he have his number changed.
Making Collections
2:44 p.m. — 100 block of Broadway Street
Suspicious Person: Police responded to reports of a heavily built man with a shaved head and a female companion in the area of Broadway Beach collecting live sand dollars and putting them in their vehicle. Officers were unable to locate the pair upon investigation.
Hiding in Plain Sight
8:46 p.m. — 700 block of Emerald Harbor Drive
Missing Property: A man called police to report that his kayak had drifted away during a recent storm. When officers arrived, they found a kayak in the area. The man said he had not looked and did not originally see it there before he called.
