An AT&T cellular service outage is impacting customers in Sarasota and other parts of southwest Florida this morning.

Initial reports regarding the outage came before 7 a.m. today. In addition to Sarasota, the cellular outage is also affecting service in Manatee County and the Tampa area.

The company has acknowledged the issue and is working to address it, according to AT&T Tampa-area spokeswoman Karen McAllister.

“We are aware of a service issue affecting some AT&T wireless customers and engineers are working to restore service as quickly as possible,” McAllister said. “We apologize for this inconvenience.”

Update: This article has been edited to remove reference to internal communications issues at the Sarasota Police Department, which were the product of a separate outage.
