Broken Egg Restaurants hosts fundraiser for Lexi Brown

by: Josh Siegel Staff Writer

The Broken Egg Restaurants are throwing a birthday party and fundraiser in honor of Lexi Brown Thursday, April 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Brown, a 10-year-old fifth-grader at Gene Witt Elementary, was shot dead by her father in January.

10% of sales at all Broken Egg Restaurants will go to Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue and its Lexi Paw Pals program, named in her honor.

Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, where Lexi was active, will bring their Smooch-A-Pooch Booth to The Broken Egg locations in Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota.

The animal rescue organization will be at The Broken Egg at Lakewood Ranch, 6115 Exchange Way, April 4 at 9:30 a.m., and The Broken Egg at Sarasota, 4031 Clark Rd., at 11:30 a.m.

The press and the public are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear blue jeans and green shirts, in honor of Lexi’s favorite outfit.

"Lexi Brown was an inspiration to our organization,” said Karissa Mayer, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue director of operations. “Her passion for saving animals made us realize we needed to have a way to engage all of the children like her in our community, and nurture that passion.”

Before she died, Lexi signed her family up online for an animal-training program called Open Paws, which was re-named to Lexi’s Paw Pals after her death.

The Lexi’s Paw Pals program at Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue is designed to allow children to work with and socialize with dogs and cats at the shelter.
