The September portion of the 2017 high school football schedule is now complete, and the lone undefeated East County team is ...

Well, it's not Braden River High, which lost 41-35 to Venice High in dramatic fashion.

Nor is it The Out-of-Door Academy, which lost 61-7 to Saint Stephen's Episcopal School at home. That score was also the score of the game at halftime. Senior quarterback Gus Mahler had the lone Thunder touchdown, a 65-yard dash in the first quarter.

It's Lakewood Ranch High, the team that went 2-7 a season ago and now stands at 3-0 in 2017 after a 28-13 win against North Port High. Senior running back Mason Fischer had 146 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Mustangs. Senior quarterback Justin Curtis added a 25-yard running touchdown of his own to go with a passing touchdown to junior tight end Drake Theriot.

The Mustangs will next play on Oct. 9, a makeup game against Venice High, while on Oct. 6, Braden River will play a road game against Palmetto High and ODA will play Shorecrest Prep.
