Firefighters hosted the 10th annual Sarasota Firefighter Rib Cook Off Saturday, March 2, at Phillippi Estate Park, to raise money for the Firefighters Benevolent Fund. The fund assists Sarasota County firefighters and their families during times of crisis. 'We try to give back to the community and have them see us in a different light than in an emergency situation,' said Lieutenant Billy Kocur. 'We are just like anybody else.' Firefighters bought a total of 3,500 pounds of ribs for the event and each of the 13 competing stations cooked 160 pounds.
