The track and field season has been a sprint for Jacobey Mobley. The Booker High senior won the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the Hurricane Invite on March 27 at Manatee High. He ran a 22.55 in the 200 and 50.08 in the 400, winning the latter race by 0.12 seconds. Mobley was also a running back for Booker football in 2025, racking up 739 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 12.5 yards per carry. Mobley is the Sarasota Athlete of the Week.
How has this season gone for you so far?
It's been straight. I'm not running the times I'm really looking for. I'm really trying to go 47 (seconds in the 400-meter dash) this year, so I can get some notice and looks from other schools. That's really my goal.
What have you focused on lately in practice?
I've got an extra trainer outside of school practices, so I put extra work in. I try to wake up early every morning, go to the trainer and work for that 400. That's what I really want to take on to college.
What are your goals for your senior season with Booker?
My goal is to break my own record (48.40 seconds in the 400). Really, that's my biggest goal.
How did you realize speed was a skill of yours?
I've been doing track my whole life. It's something I've continued at. It's what I was built on.
When and why did you start running track?
I really started running track because of my dad (Corey Mobley). He put me in sports when I was young, and ever since then, he's been training me — working me, pushing me.
Why have you stuck with this sport after all these years?
I love the competitiveness. I really like racing other people and taking it to a different level. You get to see how fast other people are. I don't win all races, and I like to see people who are actually faster than me.
What quote or piece of advice have you always carried with you?
"Give it your all — 100%." Regardless, you're going to be tired, so just do it at 100%. Whether you jog it or you sprint it, you're going to be tired at the end of it.
What's a fun fact about you not many people know?
I like to eat a lot. I'm skinny, but I really like to eat.
If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you eat and why?
My go-to is chicken and fries. Chicken and fries always do it. You can't mess it up.
If you could go anywhere for a dream vacation, where would you go and why?
Bora Bora.
What music gets you in the zone during practice or before a meet?
Montana 700. That's that rapper. He's going to put me in that mood and turn me up. It gets my blood flowing like I'm ready to do it.
Finish this sentence. Jacobey Mobley is...
Dependable. You can depend on me to do this, or you could depend on me to be there and put in that work. 100%.
