After more than seven years in business, Speaks Clam Bar has closed up shop at its St. Armands Circle location.

The Italian and seafood restaurant at 29 N. Boulevard of Presidents served lobster rolls, house-made pasta, oysters and more in a right-after-prohibition-themed setting.

The news was announced on social media March 15, the last day the business was open.

“Since opening our doors, Speaks has weathered a lot alongside this community - red tide, the pandemic, tropical storms, and hurricanes that brought water inside our walls,” the statement from Hi Hospitality Group said. “Through every challenge, our team showed resilience, heart, and an unwavering commitment to hospitality. We are incredibly grateful to every guest who sat at our bar, shared a plate of pasta, and created special moments with us.”

The Lakewood Ranch location will remain open.

Hi Hospitality Group owns and operates restaurants in Bradenton and St. Petersburg and Sarasota, including Kojo, Bar Hana and Palm Avenue Deli.
